Travel Tips

A Note on Altitude

Altitude in the Albuquerque area ranges from 5,000-7,000 feet above sea level. We are actually at a higher elevation than Denver, the “Mile High City!”

For visitors joining us from lower altitudes…

  • Drink lots of water! The desert climate and high altitude may lead to dehydration for those who are not used to these conditions.
  • Take it easy on your first day of travel. Hiking or other strenuous activities may be better suited for later in your trip.
  • Note that drinking alcohol and smoking have a different impact on your body at higher altitudes due to the lower amounts of oxygen in the air. A drink at sea level may feel more like two or three drinks at this elevation.
