Beginning Multi-Shaft Weaving

Interested in making your own fabric with diverse patterns? This weaving workshop is perfect for folks who are interested in loom weaving but may not know where to start.
On a multi-shaft loom, you can make towels, blankets, scarves, shawls, rugs, and MORE!
In this class, you will create a wall hanging containing plain weave, twills, basket weave and a tapestry weave.
Students will learn how to:
- Wind warps and warp (dress) a table or small floor loom.
- Read a draft.
- Calculate warp and wefts.
- Ue different fibers in the weaving process.
- Learn appropriate finishing techniques.
Students will also weave double weave samples to include: Interlocking double weave, Double width, Tubular, and two layers of cloth (separately woven). You may plan and weave a small project of your own.

- Students should bring
a loom, lease sticks, lunch, beverage, note taking materials, a head mounted or clip on light, and a desire to experiment. We will have the following to use at the center, but please bring your own if you wish: scissors, measuring tape, boat shuttles, bobbins, heddle hooks, and a blunt tapestry needle. Any item that will make your experience more comfortable is also recommended.
Instructor
Myra Chang ThompsonMyra was born in Northern New Mexico. Embroidery, crochet and clothing construction were taught by her mother and practiced throughout most of her life. Myra is a professional teacher with 35 years of classroom experience. Early in her marriage, she was given a 4 shaft loom by her husband, Bill. She was a member of the Stockton Weavers Guild in California. She refined her weaving skills under the watchful eye of E. E. Gilmore of Gilmore Looms. Her passion for weaving and teaching grew over the years. During Myra’s time in the Weavers Guild of Boston, her technical skills were honed. Upon returning to New Mexico, she joined Las Arañas Spinners and Weavers Guild and Fiber to Finish Guild in Valencia County. A long time member of Handweavers Guild of America, Myra attends and teaches at Convergence, the biennial fiber arts conference. She also teaches locally, regionally and nationally.
