Coiled Basketry

With Carrie Botto

Learn how to weave a raffia basket from start to finish using the fundamental technique of coiling in this basket weaving workshop.

Starting from the center, you will learn how to add raffia, change color, and finish your basket.

In addition, the instructor will share how to do a “bridge” stitch. The repetitive motion of stitching creates a zen like atmosphere.

With the materials fee, the instructor supplies everything, including a table full of assorted colored raffia, needles, clips and embellishments. At the end of the workshop, take home a bright and beautiful touch of artistry!

I started weaving on stones with beads about 30 years ago and it evolved from there. I consider my self a multimedia weaver, using beads, yucca, raffia, paper pine needles and rope to create baskets. I also weave with string to create wall hangings and paper cord to sculpt pieces.
