Wools and combs

Fiber Prep: Combing

With Becky Arnold

Calling all felters and spinners! Take your projects to the next level by combing your own fiber.

Combing wool creates top, a fiber preparation with uniform, neatly aligned fibers, unlike the randomly organized fibers of carded wool.

Once spun, this results in a worsted yarn—smooth, strong, and lustrous—for projects including shirts, shawls, and socks.

In this class, learn the technique of combing, blend fibers and colors, and experiment with several types of combs.
