Intermediate Nålbinding: Create a Top-Down Nålbound Cap

Join Laura Ninnemann once again for our first intermediate nålbinding class.

In this class, you will learn new skills such as the circular start, increasing to create the crown, decreasing, bottom edge finishing options, and a new set of her tips and tricks to make your nålbinding easier and more enjoyable including how to count to avoid misplaced increases.

You will also explore ways of using two colors, turning odds and ends of leftover yarn into one-of-a-kind creations, and combining two different stitches to create additional texture and interest.

Prerequisite: Students must have completed Laura’s Introduction to Nålbinding class and have sufficient skill to work the Oslo stitch and join to the row below to work in circular.

The instructor will provide students with a top-down nalbound cap pattern written for use with Lamb’s Pride Bulky yarn, as well as loaner snips to trim yarn ends for joining.

  • Skill level Intermediate
  • Age appropriate 18+
  • Students should bring Approximately 3-4 oz Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Bulky 85% wool/15% mohair yarn in one or more colors (AVOID very dark colors like black or dark navy) or an equivalent weight wool yarn; Nålbinding needle and tools (included in introductory class); Eye magnification, if needed; Lunch or snack and a drink; and note-taking materials.

    Laura Ninnemann

    Laura learned to knit and sew at an early age from her mother and grandmother in pursuit of her Scandinavian roots and is the creative passion behind Lone Raven StudioTM. After earning her Bachelor’s degree from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO at the age of 56, Laura enjoyed a ten-year career as anarchaeologist at Mesa Verde National Park before retiring in 2014 to pursue her love of fiber arts full-time. Her current interests include designing and creating limited-edition Norse Gnomes, Northern Lights felted luminaries, and Scandinavian krokbragd weavings, in addition to her traditional line of handknit, woven, and felted apparel and accessories.
