Three Felted Hats

Make Your Own Felted Hat

With Debra Baker

Go on a creative fiber journey using just your hands, some water, a little soap, and a ball to create your own beautiful felted hat with a custom fit.

Choose from a wide brimmed sun protecting style or a shorter brimmed fedora style or the popular bucket hat with a turned down brim.

If time allows, the Instructor will share some ideas for finishing your hat with a hat band and adding a felted flower pin.

By the end of the day you will witness how these simple materials and a little vigorous and timely agitation can transform into a wonderful 3D piece of wearable art for your head.

Debra has been involved in the Fiber & Textile Arts from a very early age. She started with sewing construction at the age of 13. While living in Tahoe City, California she created one-of-a- kind wearable art designs. Today she credits her various skills to the interest of several mentors over the years while living in California, New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona.
While living in Salida, Colorado, Debra discovered a new art form, “Felting.” With no teachers or classes, but with great enthusiasm, she explored with the use of books and the internet. With basic tools, a few supplies, and a substantial amount of courage, she dove right in and taught herself all about felting. She says, “The excitement and joy was so great that at times I felt like a fiber addict. I looked at everything and wondered, ‘Could it be felted?’”
Debra has taught classes on felting and has participated in art shows and currently sells her creations at local shops & art fairs.
