Sculptural Twined Forms
With Ann Coddington
This program is part of Handwork 2026, presented by Craft in America
In this busy four-day workshop, Ann will introduce the off-loom weaving technique of twining as a method of creating contemporary woven sculptural forms.
Twining is an ancient basketry technique, possibly as old as 2 million years, that co-evolved in multiple cultures across the globe – from Africa, to the Bering Strait to Sumer.
We will utilize both waxed linen as well as reed and will cover several different ways of starting pieces. Ann will teach you how to turn, split and join forms, giving you lots of methods for inventing your own shapes.
Most of all, we will have fun creating new forms with this pre-historic basketry technique.
