Twining for Basketry with Paper Cord

With Cael Chappell

Come learn how to make your first mini basket using the amazing technique of twining!

Twining is one of the most flexible basket weaving techniques because you can use it with just about any flexible cordage or plant fiber.

This class is tailored to beginning basket weavers, but other skill levels may want to join to try weaving with this Japanese paper cord. No experience with basket weaving is required.

Each basket will vary in colors, patterns, and size depending on student choice and ability level.

In this full day class students will all complete at least one basket and design and start a second larger basket. First baskets will be approximately 2 inches across by 2 to 5 inches tall, and the subsequent baskets will depend on student choice and design.

  • Skill level Beginner
  • Age appropriate 14+ (minors must have a parent on site)
  • Materials All materials included
  • Students should bring Note taking materials, drinks, and lunch.

Cael Chappell’s basket making grows from his love of basketry. During his years of travel across Africa to meet and work with basket weavers, Cael discovered that basketry is as diverse as it is universal.  Cael is inspired by global weaving traditions to create his own uniquely sculptural and whimsical baskets. He conveys his interpretation of places, people, things, and ideas through basketry.
