HGA Textiles and Tea Watch Party

Featuring Eugene Vigil

Join us for a watch party of the Handweavers Guild of America’s Textiles & Tea episode featuring Eugene Vigil! Eugene and his wife Rose are members of the Las Aranas Spinners and Weavers Guild.

We will be streaming the episode via Zoom at 2pm in our workshop space on Tuesday, December 16. Support a local weaver and watch with the Fiber Arts on 4th community!

Biography: Since Eugene Vigil was born and raised in the Chimayo Valley, he has always had an interest in the traditions in his area. His goal is to preserve and promote all aspects of Hispanic weavings, from the most traditional to the contemporary.  Without his wife, Rose, Eugene’s textiles could not be completed. Rose washes, cards, spins, and dyes the wool. Together, they create the dye by extracting the natural pigmentation from the plants they gather during field trips. The design is of Eugene’s culture, with simple stripes, twills, serrated diamonds, block design, hourglass, chispas, and seamed textiles. It is all of these elements that come together to create a Rio Grande/Chimayo textile. As a seventh-generation weaver, Eugene is proud to preserve and pass on the Spanish weaving tradition to future generations.

More information about Textiles & Tea: The Handweavers Guild of America, Inc.’s (HGA) interview series, Textiles & Tea, takes place every Tuesday at 4 PM (ET). Each week we invite a respected fiber artist in the field today to join us for an hour-long conversation where we will discuss their artwork and their creative journey. We invite you to listen in on the conversation. Make a cup of your favorite tea and join us as we talk about fiber, creativity, inspiration, process and so much more. This episode of Textiles & Tea is generously sponsored by Las Aranas Spinners and Weavers Guild.
