Tour De Fleece

Tour de Fleece is an annual event to encourage spinners to reach new heights!

Inspired by the Tour de France, participants are encouraged to spin each day of this biking event. E-spinners, drop spindle, and spinning wheel users are all welcome to join. The goal is to build community and spin some fibers!

Our in-person kickoff event will be on Sunday, July 5 from 11am-4pm at Fiber Arts on 4th. Bring your spinning method of choice, high energy, and snacks to share with your teammates to fuel your fiber fun!

We will meet virtually via Google Meets weekly on Wednesdays (July 8, 15 and 22) from 4:30-6:30 PM MT, led by our team captain Ruth Baldwin.

We will use these spin sessions to share ideas and goals for Tour de Fleece. Spinners may wish to set goals for themselves, whether that be to spin a set amount of yarn or spin a set number of minutes per day.

NOTE: Participation in all in-person or online meetings is not mandatory to be part of the team. This is about having fun!

The first 15 people to register for the Fiber Arts on 4th team through our website will receive a free yarn gauge.

Here are the official guidelines (not rules!) as shared by Ravelry, the fiber arts social media site:

  • Spin every day the Tour rides, if possible (July 4- July 26 and August 1-9). Rest on the days they rest (Monday, July 13 and Monday, July 20). Challenge yourself on their toughest days. Unexpected collapses, ambushes and twists of all kinds could be on the cards, so remember to have fun despite the unexpected!
  • Challenge Days: Spin something challenging on the challenge days (or pick your own Challenge Day to suit your needs and schedule). The first one is Stage 9, on Sunday, July 12. The second is Stage 15, on Sunday, July 19.
  • Colored Jerseys: Wear yellow on Sunday, July 26 and/or Sunday, August 9 to announce victory. Why not wear yellow on any day you feel particularly successful?
    • Yellow is the color of the race leader in the Tour – but here we are all ‘race leaders.’
    • Green: sprinter – think FAST.
    • Polka-dot: climber – as in uphill.
    • White: rookie.
  • Skill level All
  • Age appropriate Not specified
