Vintage Pin Loom Weaving

Pin looms came into existence in the 1930s and remained popular until the 1970s.
Crafters created everything from blankets to swimsuits to three-piece ensembles using the 4-inch squares woven on these looms.
In this workshop, you will be working on a 4×6 inch vintage-style pin loom that you will take home with you.
You will also have the opportunity to work on various size and shape looms from the instructor’s collection.
Once students master the basic plain weave, we will explore some of the patterned blocks that were popular during the 1930s and used to add interest and texture, as well as combining colors for additional interest.
Finally, we will learn different techniques for joining blocks to create fabric for several simple projects.
Weaving experience is useful but not required.

- Loom & needle sources
- Tying on and ending
- Warping the loom & tensioning
- How to correctly remove blocks from the loom
- How to join a second color
- Single- and two-color plain weave
- Multiple single- and two-color patterned weaves
- Methods for assembling blocks
- Simple projects
- Skill level Beginner +
- Age appropriate 16+ (minors must have a parent on site)
- Materials fee $35 (includes pin loom set, practice yarn, vintage pin loom booklet, resource list)
- Students should bring
eye magnification, if needed, note-taking supplies, a lunch and a drink.
Instructor
Laura Danielsson NinnemannLaura learned to knit and sew at an early age from her mother and grandmother in pursuit of her Scandinavian roots and is the creative passion behind Lone Raven Studio™. After earning her bachelor’s degree from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO at the age of 56, Laura enjoyed a ten-year career as an archaeologist at Mesa Verde National Park before retiring in 2014 to pursue her love of fiber arts full-time. Her current interests include designing and creating limited-edition Norse Gnomes, nålbound garments and accessories, Northern Lights felted luminaries, and Krokbragd rigid heddle weavings, in addition to her own branded line of handknit, woven and felted apparel and accessories. Laura teaches a variety of workshops at her Santa Fe studio and other area locations.
