Rug Hooking with Almost Anything, Including Wool
With Laura Salamy
Learn the basics of traditional rug hooking with a bit of a twist. Not only will we use the usual wool fabric strips and yarn (more about that in class), but we’ll also try old t-shirts, yarn, ribbon, and anything else you might have that you can pull a loop with.
We will:
- Discuss the history of rug hooking and where it is today, including its various forms;
- Learn how to prep our materials;
- Begin hooking a “mug rug,” a small table mat, or wall hanging; and
- Discuss the ways we can finish the piece when the hooking is done.
No experience is necessary; just come prepared to play with all the colors and textures!

- Skill level Beginner
- Age appropriate 14+ (minors must have a parent on site)
- Materials $40 (includes all fibers, hook, and monk’s cloth. A frame will be provided and can be purchased after class, if desired.)
- Students should bring a small pair of scissors, note-taking materials, a lunch and a drink. If you have a strong, 12-inch quilting hoop (e.g., a Morgan), you might want to bring that too.
