Let the Renovations Begin! A New Chapter at Fiber Arts on 4th

We are thrilled that renovations have begun on our building to offer a modern, improved education center and retail space for all things fiber arts!

The Current Layout

For those who have visited us, you’ll recognize in the above photo that the green space is our existing retail and classroom space. The red is office space, and the white is all unremodeled, vacant space from when the building used to be a doctor’s office. This remodel will improve and modernize the facilities and double our usable space.

Plans for the Renovation

Construction will happen in two phases to ensure that we have space to continue running workshops and keep the store open.

Phase One will include the renovation of the currently unused space on the right side of the building. This half of the building will include our retail space, a small gallery room, and offices in the new plan.

Phase Two will include the creation of a classroom double the size of our existing classroom, featuring three dye sinks and electrical for eight dye pots.

We will convert the existing classroom into a designated loom room for folks to try looms before buying. The classroom will also be available for guilds, indie dyers, and fiber arts organizations to rent for their own activities.

We are also planting the seeds for a dye and weaving garden. This garden will feature native plants that students can use in our natural dye workshops and weaving workshops.

Will you remain open during the renovation?

The store will remain open, and workshops will run as normal.

The majority of the “loud” work will happen during days when we are typically closed.

When Phase Two starts in the fall, the back building will become our primary classroom while renovations start on two new classrooms.

If any disruptions occur because of construction, we will communicate changes directly with workshop registrants. You may see smaller class sizes as we work with the available space.

Where can I find updates?

During Fiber Fun Friday on April 24, we presented the plans and opened up the old half of the building to the public.

This area, which used to be a doctor’s office in the 1980s, still features many of its medical quirks and groovy decor (see more on our Instagram).

Thank you for your patience and support as we start renovations. We are so thrilled to start building the improved facilities that our community deserves!
